Fruit Bird Feeders - Oriole Feeders

Picture

Oriole Feeder

You can make your own homemade oriole or bluebird feeder by simply slipping slices of fruit especially apples and oranges onto a wire that you have bent and created hooks to hold the fruit.

But I thought this looked better and was less dangerous for yourself and would make a great shelter for the little birds to peck at the fruit.

This is a very simple and yet effective feeder for those birds that love fruit.  Orioles and bluebirds are at the top of the list but so do Robins and a few others.  It really adds variety to a bird feeding station.  You can hang this along other feeders for all to enjoy.

Just make sure you change out the fruit when it gets eaten so as not to spoil.  But this is a welcome treat for your bird friends.

Sometimes homemade bird food doesn't have to be complicated.  Simply putting out a few bits of fruit and nuts will attract them too.  Bananas are also welcome.  Start with simply cutting on orange or apple in half and see how fast it gets eaten.  This will be a good gauge as to how much can be put out on the feeder without worry of spoilage especially in the warmer weather.

Bits of fruit are a welcome treat in the colder weather and especially early spring.

Feeding any birds in your yard can be a lot of fun, but there is something special about the oriole.  It is a beautiful bird.  I hope I have inspired you to share your oranges and fruit with your oriole friends in the backyard, and see what other types of birds you can attract.

Watching birds can totally de-stress you no matter how small your yard!
