How to Make a Soda Bottle Bird Feeder

Picture
This is another great way to reuse some household items.  You can use any size of plastic soda bottle or plain water bottle as long as it has a cap.

This is a fun project for kids, although they will need adult supervision for cutting the holes.

Make sure your soda bottle is cleaned with sudsy water and dried.

Now get to work!

What you will Need for your Soda Bottle Bird Feeder

one plastic soda bottle or water bottle
a push pin
tiny sharp scissors
sticks, or dowels, or unsharpened pencils work well too
enough bird seed to fill the feeder

Method:
Check out the video below!

In this video, he used larger seeds, which all birds love.

You could make a few of these and try different types of birds seeds.  Whether you make your own homemade bird food, or you purchase it, it can be fun to have different ones.  You can then see which seed is the most popular in your yard.

You can hang these from trees, or garden hooks, as long as you have access to the top of the bottle for refilling.

You can also get the kits to make Soda pop Bottle bird feeders by adding the perches as you can see below:
Recycling household items, or at least giving them a second use, helps the environment and also our fine feathered friends in the yard.  Depending on where you live the winters can be rough for birds.  It is nice to feed them and attract them to your yard during those long months of winter.  Chickadees are my favourite, and they totally love sunflower seeds.

Larger Birds

If you want to attract larger birds, use the larger water bottles or soda bottles and use much longer sticks so they can perch easier to eat.  This can be a grand experiment especially if you have empty soda bottles!
